Fire Damages Vacant House in Toledo

A vacant Toledo home was partially destroyed by an early morning fire Tuesday.

Crews responded to reports of a fire at 5:17 a.m. at the house in the 300 block of Howe Road in Toledo.

The fire caused heavy damage to the three-bedroom, about 1600 square-foot house, said Lewis County Fire District 2 Chief Dave Germain.

“There is roof over just two of the bedrooms now,” he said.

Germain said the fire likely started in one corner of the house, but investigators are not yet sure what sparked it.

Crews initially thought the vacant house was not hooked up to electricity, but Germain said they later found evidence the house might have had power. However, he said there were no electrical appliances in the house that could have shorted out.

The investigation is ongoing.
