Toledo Receives Mid-Search Report on Superintendent Replacement

The Toledo School District is currently on schedule for its ongoing superintendent search.

A mid-search report, given Feb. 12, reviewed the board of directors’ progress to date, which includes a job posting and a completed and posted brochure informing potential applicants of the position, and discussed interest the board has received for the position.

“We are right where we anticipated we would be,” Board President Heidi Buswell said.

The position closes Feb. 27, and the board had received 10 to 12 applications at the time of the meeting, with more anticipated to come in.

A pool of 15 to 20 candidates is expected.

“We were hoping for more than this at the outset, but based on the number of applicants for other superintendent openings throughout the state, this is a very good sampling,” Buswell said.

The meeting also focused on logistical considerations in the next step, the interview phase. Although specifics are yet to be solidified, Glenys Hill, the district’s consultant throughout the process, provided the board with feedback on what the board would like to include.

The board wants conversations with school staff and community members to be part of the process, Buswell said.

Interview dates and schedules will be finalized at the March 12 board meeting.

Due to the unavailability of various board members, the interview phase was postponed by one week and tentatively scheduled for the week of March 31.

According to Buswell, the process will include informal contact and a formal interview with the board.

A tour of the district will also be included, as will a chance for community and staff members to meet and ask questions of each candidate.

The board is looking for a replacement of the current superintendent, Sharon Bower, who submitted her resignation in November. Bower will continue in the role until June 30.
