Mervin R. Baine

Mervin R. Baine, born Sept. 21, 1931 in Hoquim, Wash., to Merrill and Gladys (LaBreck) Baine, passed away April 15, 2013 at home with his family close by and under the care of Assured Home Hospice.

As a young boy, Merv lived in the harbor area, Port Angeles and Bush Prairie before moving to Tenino in eighth grade. He enjoyed his sports and the agriculture classes. It was there he met and later married his sweetheart, MaryAnn Stockwell. Merv and MaryAnn married on Aug. 22, 1948 at his parents home in Seattle.

In January 1949, Merv hired on at Pacific Telephone in Olympia as a lineman. He later transferred to Centralia and worked from there until retiring in January 1984.

During Merv's telephone career, he also worked for Ewart Peterson and later for Charlie Peterson at Tenino Telephone Co. He so enjoyed his work and time spent at Tenino and gathered many special friends along the way.

Merv leaves behind his wife of 64 years, MaryAnn; one daughter, Susan Baine; three sons, John of Randle, Wash., Richard (Diane) and families of Centralia, Wash., Gerald (Lorelie) and families of Tumwater; his brother-in-law, Clarke (Pam) Stockwell and families of Seattle; and many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, all dearly loved.

Merv was preceded in death by his parents; an only sister, Merrilyn; a daughter, Leslie; daughter-in-law, Janet; granddaughter, Lisa; and grandson, Jason.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Assured Hospice, 1821 Cooks Hill Rd., Suite 200, Centralia, Wash., or a charity of your choice.

A celebration of life will be held for Mervin at the Centralia American Legion, 111 W. Main St., on May 11, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 3 :00 p.m. Please join us and share your stories and memories, as Merv would like that.
