Images of a girls soccer game between Black Hills and Centralia played Thursday night at Tiger Stadium.
The Warriors scored the only goal of the match in the second half to leave Tiger Stadium in Centralia with a 1-0 victory against Centralia in an Evergreen 2A Conference girls soccer match.
Sufina Ahmath scored the only goal in the 49th minute on a penalty kick. Madison Bates made three saves in the clean sheet for the Warriors.
“I thought they played really well. We took a little time to settle into the game,” Rochester coach Robert McFadden said. “Emma Wiss, she converted to a winger for this game and she had a great game. Sufina (Ahmath) did a great job controlling the midfield with good ball control to distribute to wingers and additional players.”
It was a tough game for the Tigers with just three shots on goal.
“The players worked hard. We created some chances and had some shots but not a lot were on target,” Centralia coach Henry Gallanger said. “I love the attitude of our players working hard right down to the end of the season.”
Rochester (2-11-1, 1-7) is on the road against the Bearcats on Saturday at 1 p.m. while Centralia (1-12, 1-7) travels to Tumwater at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Beavers Take a Bite Out of Spartans
FORKS — Tenino made the most of their trek to the West End of the Olympic Peninsula on Thursday — They packed plentiful snacks, enjoyed a midday trip to the beach, and then capped the excursion with a 9-0 win over the Spartans in their 1A Evergreen League girls soccer tilt.
The Beavers put a foot on 43 shots on the night while getting 21 different players into the game. At the same time they prevented Forks from putting up any shots of their own.
Abby Severse enjoyed some time out of the goalie box in the contest and punched in a goal before a full minute had eclipsed off the clock. That score was set up by Grace Vestal. Five minutes later, Vestal notched another assist, this time setting up Brieanna Dell for the first of four goals on the night.
Dell tallied her second score in the seventh minute with an assist by Morgan Miner. Then in the 12th minute Miner scored an unassisted goal that gave the Beavers a 4-0 lead at the intermission.
“We’re getting ready for playoffs so we’re trying to keep our intensity level high all the time,” said Tenino coach Kevin Schultz.
That effort picked right back up out of halftime when Sierra Pogue set up Morgan Letts for a score in the 42nd minute. Dell then tacked on her third and fourth goals in the 48th and 49th minutes.
In the 52nd minute Andee Schaffran scored a goal thanks to another assist from Miner. The Beavers wrapped up their scoring assault in the 60th minute when Letts set up Alivia Hunter for a score.
“Kudos to Andee, that was her first varsity goal,” said Schlutz of Schaffran, who typically plays centerback. “We changed some things up and brought a few extra JV players up with us tonight. We were able to get some freshman some varsity time and even though they weren’t able to score any goals, they were able to get some shots up and create some opportunities.”
Schultz added a tip of his stocking cap to the Spartan who saw the most action on the night.
“Big credit to their goalkeeper, Leslie Hernandez-Beltran. She made 15 saves tonight,” noted the Beavers’ coach.
Tenino (13-0-1, 8-0 league) will host Hoquiam on Tuesday for their final home game and senior night.
Black Hills Blanks Bearcats
TUMWATER — W.F. West was unable to get their offense going here Thursday as they fell 2-0 to Black Hills in 2A Evergreen Conference girls soccer action.
The Wolves took a 1-0 lead just before halftime when Naliyah Navarrete punched in a score. Then, in the 68th minute, it was Marsaiah Navarrete who gave Black Hills their lasting advantage.
Black Hills was able to post a dozen shots in the contest while the Bearcats managed just four shot attempts.
“For us tonight, Tizzie Zylstra and Kyla McCallum played really hard for us in the midfield and brought a lot of energy,” said W.F. West coach Allen Anderson. “Definitely our keeper, Aeryn Elder and Cassy Schilter had a really good game for us defensively.”
W.F. West (9-4-1, 4-4 league) will host Rochester at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
