As the City of Centralia continues its comprehensive plan update process, the Centralia Planning Commission will hold a special meeting to discuss specific parts of the comprehensive plan relating to downtown Centralia, according to a city news release.

The meeting will be held at Centralia City Hall, located at 118 W. Maple St., at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22.

A city’s comprehensive plan is a 20-year vision establishing goals, policies and implementation strategies surrounding a community’s growth. It focuses on land use, population and employment growth.

The Washington State Growth Management Act requires that all cities and counties update their comprehensive plans periodically, and Centralia’s is due for an update by June 30, 2025.

Last November, the Centralia City Council approved a public participation plan for its comprehensive plan update process.

At next Thursday’s meeting, specific topics relating to the downtown area slated to be discussed include goals, policies, land use designations and development regulations.

“The agenda will be posted a minimum of 24 hours prior to the special meeting on the city’s website at www.cityofcentralia.com, under Government — Agendas and Minutes — Planning Commission,” the release stated.
