Chehalis voters choose new city councilor

Posted

Residents in Chehalis district 4 had the opportunity to choose a new Chehalis City Council member after longtime Councilor Isaac Pope announced he was not seeking re-election earlier this year. Preliminary election results were released by the Lewis County Auditor's Office on Nov. 7 at 8 p.m.

Running against one another for that position were candidates Karen Laufenberg and Jody Kyes.

Currently, Kyes leads Laufenberg by a vote count of 204 to 60.

Chehalis Mayor Tony Ketchum and Councilors Kevin Carns and Daryl Lund ran unopposed for re-election. Additionally, resigning Councilor Jerry Lord was running unopposed and no write-in candidate was able to defeat him, meaning the council will choose his replacement over the next few months.

While Lord had initially filed to run for re-election, he announced his resignation last month due to moving out of the city.

According to the Lewis County Auditor’s Office, there are an estimated 701 ballots left to be counted in the county. The next update is set for Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 5 p.m.

County certification of the Washington state general election will take place on Nov. 28.
