Packwood Flea Market

Sept. 3-6 throughout Packwood

The second rendition of this year’s Packwood Flea Market will take over the streets of the East Lewis County town Friday through Monday as Labor Day weekend arrives. Shop from hundreds of vendors offering a wide range of products, from antiques to newer items. The flea market also includes dozens of food vendors. If you’re planning to travel to Packwood for the event, expect heavy traffic on U.S. Highway 12 as the flea market often leads to backups.

 

Rust or Shine Car Show and Music Festival

Sept. 5 at the Veterans Memorial Museum, 100 SW Veterans Way, Chehalis; 9 a.m.

This is the sixth annual “Rust or Shine” show; funds are raised for the Veterans Memorial Museum and all kinds of vehicles — rusty or shiny — are welcome. Pre-registration is $15 per car with the ability to order a T-shirt for $15. Day of registration is $20 a car and $20 for the T-shirt. Contact the museum at 360-740-8875 for details.

 

Lewis County Cemetery District #1 Meeting

Sept. 8 at the cemetery office, 407 Cowlitz Road, Winlock; 7 p.m.

These meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month.

 

Writers Conference

Sept. 10 and 11 at Centralia College

New and seasoned writers alike can learn from Friday’s master classes, Saturday’s keynote speakers or both at this conference. Until Sept. 7, participants can choose one day for $90 or both days for $160 or pay $110 for one day at the door. Chehalis-Centralia Railroad’s Wine and Beer Tasting with Scatter Creek Winery

Sept. 11 and 18 at the Chehalis-Centralia Railroad & Museum, 1101 SW Sylvenus St., Chehalis

Riders will learn about the wines and beers made locally at the family-owned and operated Scatter Creek Winery in Tenino while on a train ride through the scenic Chehalis River Valley. Wine will be available to taste and/or buy on the 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. trains on both Saturdays. For tickets, visit bit.ly/2USh7dK.

 

Hooves Vs. Wheels

Sept. 11 at the Oakville Community Center, 7000 U.S. Highway 12, Oakville; Gates at 7 a.m, competition at 9 a.m.

Who can win in a timed competition on a traditional equine course? Horses or wheels (motorcycles and ATVs)? Find out at this event. Horses and vehicles will be timed separately. To ride all day the cost is $35 per horse or vehicle. Overnight camping available Friday or Saturday for $10 per night. Concessions on site. Obstacle Course

Bethel Church and Huntting’s Pumpkin Patch and Haunted Forest will host a 5K obstacle course to benefit the Lewis County Gospel Mission. Funds raised will go toward an addiction recovery program, employment resources and on-site counseling for mission guests.

 

Rummage Sale

Sept. 11 at the Centralia United Methodist Church parking lot, 506 S. Washington Ave., Centralia; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Centralia United Methodist women are hosting this sale of crafts, household items, toys, holiday items, boutique and casual clothes for people of all ages and furniture. All furniture is in good or great shape. No early sales. Contact Phyllis Booth at 360-763-3590 with any questions.

 

‘Brunch and BBQ’ Chehalis Eagles Fundraiser

Sept. 11 at 1993 S. Market Blvd., Chehalis; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Chehalis Eagles Aerie 1550 and Auxiliary are hosting this event-packed day to raise money for the Veterans Memorial Museum and the Purple Heart Rescue. It is open to the public. Veterans Recognition Day

Sept. 11 Veterans Memorial Museum, 100 SW Veterans Way, Chehalis; 2 p.m.

This free event honoring all veterans will feature two speakers, music will begin an hour before.

 

Downhome Toledo Shindig

Sept. 11 at Country N’ Lace, 757 Spencer Road, Toledo; 4 to 10 p.m.

This event by the Toledo Community Foundation will feature a silent auction for children in need who attend the Toledo School District. Ages 21 and over only.
