Donation of $5,000 benefits diesel technology students at Centralia College

Earlier this year, the Centralia College Foundation received a $5,000 donation from the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation to fund scholarships for Centralia College students earning their bachelor’s degrees in diesel technology.

Dennis and Phyllis Washington purchased Modern Machinery, a heavy equipment dealer, in 1976 when it was a single location in Spokane.

Today, Modern Machinery has 10 locations in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. Delivering the check to the Centralia College Foundation was Jeff Bell, the branch manager at the Rochester location.

“We’re so appreciative of our partners at Modern Machinery and the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation,” said Christine Fossett, executive director of the Centralia College Foundation. “Our diesel students in particular travel across many states, often at great financial burden to their families, and every bit of scholarship money is critical to their success. Our students are so grateful for this show of support.”

Centralia College has the only bachelor’s degree program in diesel technology in the Pacific Northwest.

The donation was announced in September.
