A 43-year-old driver was injured in a Mason County rollover crash on U.S. Highway 101 early Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred at 1:21 a.m. May 1 as the driver was approaching U.S. 101 from State Route 106 in Skokomish near Annas Bay, according to a Washington State Patrol press memo.

The Hoodsport driver reportedly struck a ditch at a high speed after failing to negotiate a curve. The memo says the vehicle rolled through the intersection of S.R. 106 and U.S. 101 before striking an embankment on the southbound shoulder of U.S. 101.

First responders had the driver airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment, the memo says.

Troopers suspect drugs or alcohol may have been a factor. The memo notes its unknown if the driver wore a seat-belt. His vehicle, a 2016 RAM 1500 pickup truck, was totaled in the crash.
