Centralia Names New Oakview Elementary Principal

Crystal Allen, an instructor from the Longview School District, was recently named the new principal of Oakview Elementary School in Centralia.

She begins her new role July 1 and replaces Principal Shannon Richards, who is resigning effective June 30, according to a Facebook post from the school district.

"My heart is bursting right now at all of the things we'll get to do next year," Allen told the Centralia School Board at a meeting last Wednesday.

Allen is currently a teacher at St. Helens Elementary, according to the school’s staff directory.

 

Oakville Hosting Online Bond Project Committee Meeting

The Oakville School District will host a bond project meeting with staff and the community to review draft plans for upcoming improvements.

The hour-long meeting will take place 6 p.m. Thursday, May 6, on Zoom video conferencing.

Oakville recently finished multiple improvements on its campus, which include a new HVAC system and new roof. This fall, the district anticipates contractors will begin demolition of the old Oakville Elementary building in an effort to replace it.

The district is encouraging stakeholders and community members to join. More information and a registration link are available on the district’s website and social media accounts.

 



Mossyrock Encouraging Candidates to Run for Outgoing School Board Member’s Seat

The Mossyrock School District is encouraging interested residents living in District No. 2 within its school district boundaries to run for a seat that’s being vacated this year by outgoing school board member Jerry Brindle.

According to an April 22 post on the district’s Facebook page, Brindle recently announced he will not seek reelection to the board.

Interested candidates must file to run in the November election during filing week, which begins Monday, May 17. There is no filing fee.

Candidates must also be a registered voter living within District No. 2, which encompasses most of the area south of Mayfield Lake.

The seat is one of two on the Mossyrock School Board that are up for reelection this year. Board member Tanissa Lovan’s seat is also subject to reelection this year.

White Pass Scholarship Auction Set for May 14

The White Pass Scholarship Fund will host an online auction the weekend of Friday, May 14, to benefit post-high school scholarship funding for White Pass High School seniors.

Details are being released on the organization’s Facebook page and its event page, “2021 White Pass Scholarship Online Auction.” The price of admission will be free, according to event details, and it will be public to anyone with or without a Facebook account.

Items include an hour-long plane tour around East Lewis County, homemade baby quilts, desserts, a backpacking and hikers package and a chicken coop.
