Fluetsch pushes Rochester to vital league victory

Fueled by five runs batted in by catcher Macey Fluetsch, the Warriors picked up a critical Evergreen Conference victory over Centralia by a 10-4 verdict on Wednesday night at home.

The win moves Rochester (6-5, 3-3 EvCo) into solo fourth place and in position to nab a spot in the Class 2A District 4 tournament with three weeks left in the regular season. It sits a game up on the Tigers in the standings.

Six runs in the bottom of the first inning erased a 2-0 deficit for the Warriors and they never trailed the rest of the night. Their first seven hitters reached base as Fluetsch gave them the lead with a two-run single and Arissa LeBaron roped a double that drove in two.

Rochester, which added two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings, registered 10 stolen bases. Layna Demers scored three times as she and LeBaron combined to allow just six hits in the circle.

Centralia (6-6, 2-4) was paced by Makayla Chavez and Payton Baumel each with two hits. Lauren Wasson ripped a solo home run for the Tigers, who scored once in the fourth and the seventh frames.
