In loving memory of Janet L. (Wolden) Peabody: 1960-2024

Posted

After a 10-year battle with lung cancer, Janet Peabody passed peacefully at home with her husband by her side in West Columbia, Texas, on June 9, 2024. She was 64 years old.

Born May 4, 1960, in Shelton, Washington, Janet was the fourth child of five in a blended family. Her parents are Walt Wolden (who preceded her in death) and Gerry (Villines) Shafer. The family moved to Centralia, Washington, the same year where Janet completed her education, graduating from Centralia High School with the class of 1978.

In 1980, Janet married Larry McEntarffer. They have three sons, Aaron, Ryan and Jason. The family moved frequently to accommodate Larry's military service, ultimately returning to Joint Base Lewis-McChord (then called Ft. Lewis). Their marriage ended in divorce in 1995. By then, Janet had secured a job with Rite Aid. In time, a coworker introduced her brother to Janet. They started dating, and married in 1996. Her second husband, Ray Peabody, brought his three daughters to join the family — Jeanette, Andrea and Kathy — after their mother passed away. Their blended family reminded everyone of "the Brady Bunch." The family ultimately made their permanent home in Shelton, Washington.

Janet was very social and always found time to be with her friends. She had quite a sense of humor and entertained everyone by mimicking cartoon characters. In her spare time, she enjoyed working on cross stitch projects, reading and gardening.

Janet is survived by her mother, Gerry Shafer, of Olympia; her siblings, Kris Wolden, Kathy Siegling, Mark Wolden and Debbie Villines; her six children; eight grandchildren; plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

On Aug. 3, 2024, Janet's husband of 28 years, Ray Peabody, followed her in death, losing his battle with cancer as well.

Please join us to remember Janet and Ray Peabody during a celebration of life from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, at Olympia Masonic Center 521 North St. SE, Tumwater, Washington.
