Jean Ethel Hinchen, 86, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2024. She was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Jean was born on Aug. 7, 1937, in Ritzville, Washington, and moved to Battle Ground, Washington, where she spent her formative years. She went on to attend Central Washington State College in Ellensburg where she earned a degree in elementary education.

Jean met her husband, Larry, while at Central. They moved to Centralia, Washington, where they raised their family. She spent the early years with her children and was always there to offer advice no matter what challenges they faced. She routinely made sure they made it to their many extracurricular activities. In addition to family life, she enjoyed being a substitute teacher in the local elementary schools.

In her free time, Jean enjoyed gardening, sewing and especially traveling. She was eager to share her knowledge and enthusiasm with others. She was an active member of her community, volunteering for various causes and organizations many of which were based at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Jean was preceded in death by her dear husband, Larry. She is survived by her children, Anne, Catherine, Tom, Barbara and Elizabeth; her seven grandchildren; and her seven great-grandchildren. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.

Her immediate family held a small private gathering. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association.
