In loving memory of Sarah Thompson: 1936-2024

Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Sarah Belle Thompson passed away on March 29, 2024, at the age of 87. She was born in Fairfax, South Carolina, on Oct. 25, 1936, to Ira and Sara Belle Mixon. She lived in South Carolina throughout her young adult life and attended Lander College, earning a bachelor’s degree in business. 

Sarah moved to Washington in 1961. She worked as a research analyst for the state of Washington for 26 years. Sarah loved sports and supporting her favorite athletes, which included her immediate family as well as her grandchildren. She was an avid Duke fan, a great bowler and loved to learn. She spent many hours reading and doing crossword puzzles. 

Sarah married her best friend, Richard Thompson, in 1971, and lived a happy life here in Centralia. They loved to travel and would often spend time at their favorite casinos and beaches. She is survived by her daughter, Sherri Hansen (Lonnie); son, Bob Peters (Shawn); and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Ira Mixon; mother, Sara Belle Moody; husband, Richard Thompson; and son, Rick Peters. 

A celebration of life for Sarah will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on April 28 at the Newaukum Grange, 104 Brown Road E., Chehalis. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the American Cancer Society to support breast cancer research.
