Letter to the Editor: More Coverage of the Dangerous Animal Designation Board Please

Posted

The Lewis County Dangerous Animal Designation Board is a panel of five volunteer citizens that is a quasi-judicial panel to decide on potentially dangerous animal charges. This panel meets approximately on a monthly basis.

These cases often include victims of very extreme animal injuries. They also include stories of dogs that got away from their owners and killed a domestic rabbit. But each of these cases is newsworthy, especially to dog owners.

I would like to suggest that The Chronicle begin to cover these hearings so that the public can now be aware of dangerous animal designations in Lewis County. Did you know that there are currently about 10 dangerous animals being legally maintained here in Lewis County?
