Pedestrian killed after being struck by vehicle near Joint Base Lewis-McChord

A pedestrian who was walking in one of the I-5 lanes near Joint Base Lewis-McChord was struck by a vehicle and died Monday night.

A 2008 Toyota Sienna was traveling south on I-5 just north of the JBLM main gate in the HOV lane. The pedestrian was standing in the lane when the Toyota struck her around 10:35 p.m. The Toyota stopped and came to a rest in the HOV lane, according to a Washington State Patrol news release.

The pedestrian died at the scene. The roadway was blocked for two hours and 45 minutes, the release said.

A 32-year-old Lacey woman was driving and a juvenile boy also was in the car, the release said. The woman is cooperating with the investigation and was reportedly not impaired, according to WSP Trooper John Dattilo on X.

The pedestrian was listed as a female. Her age is currently unknown.
