Pirates Mash Their Way to 3-Inning Win

The Adna softball team only got to come to bat twice Thursday, but that’s all the Pirates needed to utterly blow out Castle Rock, run-ruling the Rockets 18-0 in three innings at home.

The Pirates plated three runs in the first inning, before scoring 15 more in a second frame in which they sent 21 batters to the plate.

Brooklyn Loose, Lena McClosky, and Ava Simms all went yard for Adna, while Simms, Danika Hallom, and Margarite Humphrey smacked doubles. The Pirates racked up 16 hits before Castle Rock could record its sixth out of the game; every Adna player got into the hit column, and five had multi-hit days.

Simms got the start in the circle and allowed two hits but struck out six in two innings. Avery LaFontaine picked up the last three outs on a pair of punchouts and a flyout.

Adna is set to get next week off, returning to play April 8 with a non-league doubleheader against Warden.
