Randall “Randy” J. Roberts: 1930-2021

Randall “Randy” J. Roberts, 90, of Centralia, Wash., passed away peacefully at his home, April 7, 2021. He was born Oct. 20, 1930, in Butte, Mont., to Robert and Floris Roberts. Randy grew up in Spokane, Wash., graduating from Lewis & Clark High School in 1949. He joined the United States Navy in 1950, serving during the Korean War for four years. He served at the Navy Exchange on Guam for 18 months, then on the supply ship U.S.S Castor (AKS-1). Randy attended Washington State University, graduating in 1958, with a BA degree in Business Administration.
Randy worked for Consolidated Freightways, was an insurance agent, and owner of the Dairy Queen for many years. He retired from Centralia Providence Hospital in 2001, working in environmental security. Randy was an avid sports enthusiast, and coached little league, and later Special Olympics track, basketball, and volleyball. He was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church since the sixties. He went on several short term mission trips to Guatemala, Sitka, Alaska, and Nogales, Mexico. He loved the outdoors and belonged to the Olympia Mountaineers, hiking and climbing mountains.
Randy was preceded in death by parents; brother, Don Roberts; sister, Mae Sommers; and son, Jay Roberts.
He is survived by wife, Peggy Roberts; sisters, Eileen Richardson and Shirley (Wayne) Schroeder; brother, Gary (Jean) Roberts; daughter, Gayle Roberts; stepdaughters, Tina Smith and Brenda Campbell; stepson, Dave Roberts; grandchildren, Abigail, Alannah, William, Clara, Ayla, Gemma; great-grandson, Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held April 23, 2021, at 11 a.m., at Mt. View Baptist Church, 1201 Belmont Ave., Centralia, WA 98531.
