Sirens: Malicious prosecution investigated after report of gun at school; driver hits cyclist, leaves; subject seen throwing rocks on underpass

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Criminal trespass

• Three homeless people were trespassed from a property in the 700 block of Northwest Liberty Place at 6 p.m. on Sept. 6.

• A train reportedly “nearly missed” a pedestrian walking on northbound railroad tracks in the 1500 block of Rice Road just before 2:15 a.m. on Sept. 7. Officers were asked to remove the pedestrian from BNSF property.

• A criminal trespass reported in the 100 block of Northeast School Street just before 10:05 a.m. on Sept. 7 is under investigation.

• A woman was trespassed from a property in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 7 after a citizen reported she was “trying to live on (the) property and refusing to leave.”

• A woman was trespassed from a property at the intersection of Northwest Quincy Place and Northwest Gertrude Street after she allegedly stole items from the property just after 10:55 p.m. on Sept. 7.

• Two subjects reportedly trespassed at an abandoned residence in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue at 5 p.m. on Sept. 8.

• A juvenile male was reportedly seen walking on train tracks at the intersection of West Main Street and Northwest Railroad Avenue at 7:20 p.m. on Sept. 8. He reportedly jumped out of the way when the train passed.

• A woman reportedly trespassed in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue at approximately 1:55 p.m. on Sept. 9.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• A citizen reported a homeless man had grabbed a pallet from the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just before 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 9. The citizen was advised that the pallets are free to the public.

• A man reportedly dumped a black Jeep that had its back window “smashed out” in a residential driveway in the 700 block of Southwest 20th Street just after 11 a.m. on Sept. 6. The driver told the reporting party that “he ran out of gas.”

• Subjects were reportedly seen going through garbage in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 5:40 p.m. on Sept. 6.

• Just after 9:25 p.m. on Sept. 6, a citizen reported there was a man standing in the street in the 700 block of Southwest 21st Street with his shirt unbuttoned, smoking a cigarette and “making (the caller) feel uncomfortable.”

• A group of “vagrants” reportedly “startled” an employee who was leaving a business in the 700 block of Northwest Liberty Place just after 12:55 a.m. on Sept. 7.

• A subject was reportedly running around with a baseball bat in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Sept. 9.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A subject was reportedly throwing rocks off of the Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way bridge onto the underpass at approximately 11:15 a.m. on Sept. 6. When contacted, the subject told officers he was “upset over a camping warning.”

• A customer at a business in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue reportedly threw items at employees and threatened to attack an employee just after 8 a.m. on Sept. 8.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of South Market Boulevard and Southwest Ninth Street at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Sept. 6.

• A possible leg injury was reported following a rollover collision in the 600 block of Northwest State Street just before 3 p.m. on Sept. 7.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run reported in the 300 block of Southwest 16th Street just after 2:40 p.m. on Sept. 6 is under investigation.

 

Scam

• At 2:15 p.m. on Sept. 6, a citizen in the 100 block of Southwest Creekside Lane reported a phone scam involving the caller claiming to be a government official and telling the victim to withdraw money from her bank and bringing it home. The victim gave the scammer part of her bank account number.

• $150 was reported stolen via a Facebook scam in the 200 block of Southwest 16th Street just after 4:45 p.m. on Sept. 6.

 

Assault

• A man was arrested for third-degree assault of a police officer at the intersection of Southwest John Street and Southwest Pacific Avenue at 6:35 a.m. on Sept. 7.

• A physical dispute was reported in the 1000 block of Northwest Prindle Street at 10:45 a.m. on Sept. 7.

 

Disputes

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 200 block of Northeast Cascade Avenue just before 3 p.m. on Sept. 7.

• A verbal neighborhood dispute involving a cat going onto a neighbor's property was reported in the 100 block of Northeast Coal Creek Road at 7:50 p.m. on Sept. 8.

• A citizen in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue reported his neighbor is “being loud and threatening/calling him names” at 3:15 a.m. on  Sept. 10.



 

Harassment

• Harassment reported in the 100 block of Northeast School Street just after 10:15 a.m. on Sept. 7 is under investigation.

 

Theft

• Three people were arrested for third-degree possession of stolen property after they were found inside a car with stolen plates in the 200 block of Northwest Quincy Place just after 8:40 a.m. on Sept. 7. The subjects reportedly stole breakfast items from a nearby business and were subsequently trespassed from the business.

• A theft reported in the 1300 block of Northwest State Avenue just before 3:50 p.m. on Sept. 9 is under investigation.

 

Malicious mischief

• A subject was arrested for damaging the inside of a residence in the 400 block of Southwest 15th Street at 10:50 a.m. on Sept. 8.

 

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Theft

• Medication was reported stolen from the 2900 block of Mt. Vista Road at approximately 10:50 a.m. on Sept. 9.

 

Malicious prosecution

  Just after 11:15 a.m. on Sept. 9, officers received a report of a Centralia Middle School student who may have brought a firearm to school in the 900 block of Johnson Road.  Officers responded and contacted staff, who had the alleged suspect and witness removed from their classes while this case was investigated. Officers reviewed camera footage and found that “the alleged suspect never removed anything from their backpack or opened it, as the witness stated,” according to the Centralia Police Department. “At this time this case is under investigation for malicious prosecution,” the Centralia Police Department stated.

 

Indecent exposure

• A 33-year-old Winlock man was arrested for indecent exposure in the 1300 block of Lakeshore Drive at 12:55 p.m. on Sept. 9.

 

Criminal trespass

• A homeless Centralia man was trespassed from a business in the 300 block of West Main Street just before 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 10.

 

Hit-and-run

• A black car hit a bicyclist in the crosswalk at the intersection of North Pearl and West Hanson streets at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Sept. 10 and fled the scene. The bicyclist received minor injuries.

• A 44-year-old Centralia man was arrested for DUI, hit-and-run to an attended vehicle, driving without an ignition interlock, driving without insurance, driving with a suspended license and obstructing a public servant after he was involved in a crash at the intersection of North Tower Avenue and East Second Street just after 11:50 p.m. on Sept. 10. Officers used the FLOCK safety system to locate the suspect’s vehicle.

 

Vehicle accident

• A vehicle struck a light pole at the intersection of Cooks Hill and South Scheuber roads at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 10. No injuries were reported.

 

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Monday morning and Wednesday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 43 illness-related calls, eight injury-related calls, six fire-related calls, five non-emergency service calls, five vehicle accidents, one Lifeline medical alert, one overdose, one 911 hangup call and one other call.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 158 inmates, including 145 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 118 were reported male and 27 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Wednesday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 11 inmates, including six booked by the Centralia Police Department, two booked by the state Department of Corrections and three booked by the Lummi Nation.
