Sirens: Witness tails DUI driver; K9 alerts to drugs in vehicle; hospital staff member assaulted by patient

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Theft

• A pistol was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 900 block of North Washington Avenue at approximately 9:10 a.m. on Aug. 30. The case is under investigation.

• A theft that occurred at an outlet store in the 1300 block of Lum Road just after 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 1 is under investigation.

• A purse was reported stolen from a fast food restaurant in the 1200 block of Lum Road just after 7:45 p.m. on Sept. 1. The case is under investigation.

 

Fraud

• Just before 10:20 a.m. on Aug. 30, a business in the 500 block of West Main Street reported receiving a counterfeit $100 bill on Aug. 20. The business didn’t confirm the bill was counterfeit until the bank checked it the next day.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 300 block of North Pearl Street just after 12:50 p.m. on Auv. 30. The victim followed the suspect vehicle as it fled and later parked near a residence associated with the vehicle’s registered owner. The case is under investigation.

• A dark blue sedan reportedly crashed into a parked car at the intersection of North Ash and West Pine streets at 8:55 p.m. on Aug. 31 and fled the scene.

• A semi reportedly backed into a parked vehicle in the 1500 block of Lum Road just before 1:55 p.m. on Sept. 1 and fled the scene.

 

Vehicle accident

• A minor, non-injury, three-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of South Tower Avenue and East Locust Street just after 9:50 p.m. on Aug. 31.

 

Runaway juvenile

• A juvenile male reportedly ran away from a residence in the 1300 block of West Reynolds Avenue at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Aug. 30. Officers located the juvenile and provided him with a courtesy transport back to his residence.

 

DUI

• A 43-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 1600 block of Oxford Avenue at 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 31 and was booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for DUI. A witness reportedly followed the suspect’s vehicle and reported it was driving “all over the roadway and almost colliding with other vehicles,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 52-year-old Centralia man was arrested at the intersection of East Sixth and B streets just before 7:05 a.m. on Aug. 31 and was booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for DUI. An officer stopped the suspect’s vehicle after he saw it cross over the center line and almost collide with another vehicle.



• A 35-year-old Centralia woman was arrested for DUI in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue just before 9:05 p.m. on Aug. 31.

• A 21-year-old Chehalis man was arrested in the 1000 block of South Gold Street at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 1 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for DUI.

 

Drug violation

• A 31-year-old Centralia man was arrested for violation of a domestic violence no contact order, unlawful possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing a law enforcement officer in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road just before 12:55 p.m. on Aug. 31. The suspect fled from officers on foot but was quickly caught when he got into a vehicle. A K9 reportedly alerted to narcotics inside the vehicle.

 

Harassment

• Officers are investigating “threats made by a neighbor” that were reported in the 900 block of L Street just before 7:25 p.m. on Aug. 31.

 

Eluding

• A vehicle reportedly fled northbound on Interstate 5 after officers attempted to stop it for a traffic infraction in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue at 2:45 a.m. on Sept. 1. Officers did not pursue the vehicle.

 

Assault

• A patient reportedly assaulted a staff member at a hospital in the 900 block of South Scheuber Road at approximately 2:25 p.m. on Sept. 1. The case is under investigation.

 

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Friday morning and Monday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 83 illness-related calls, 28 injury-related calls, 17 fire-related calls, seven non-emergency service calls, seven vehicle accidents, two hazardous conditions reports, two Lifeline medical alerts, one 911 hangup, one rescue, one overdose, one suicide-related call and six other calls.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Monday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 18 inmates, including 10 booked by the Centralia Police Department, three booked by the state Department of Corrections, three booked by the Lummi Nation, one booked by the Skokomish Tribe and one booked by Chehalis Tribal Court.
