Smith Johnston, Brewer, Garibay ahead in Centralia City Council races

During Tuesday’s general election, Centralia residents in several districts had the opportunity to vote for who will represent them on the city council for the next four years. Preliminary election results were released by the Lewis County Auditor's Office on Nov. 7 at 8 p.m.

Running against each other for Centralia City Council position 1 at-large were candidates Russell Barr and Chris Brewer. Currently, Brewer leads Barr by a vote count of 1,262 to 843. 

In the race for Centralia City Council position 2 at-large, incumbent candidate and current Mayor Kelly Smith Johnston was challenged by former Centralia City Council member Joyce Barnes. Currently, Smith Johnston leads Barnes by a vote count of 1,434 to 769. 

The final position up for grabs was Centralia City Council position 3 at-large, which featured incumbent Councilor Adrianna Garibay running against her challenger, Kylie Sexsmith. Currently, Garibay leads Sexsmith by a vote count of 1,109 to 1,041. 



According to the Lewis County Auditor’s Office, there are an estimated 701 ballots left to be counted in the county. The next update is set for Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 5 p.m. 

County certification of the Washington state general election will take place on Nov. 28.
