Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputies have arrested a suspect who led them on a high-speed chase from Grand Mound to Lewis County, back up into Thurston County and into the Capitol Forest Thursday night.

“Last night, one of our deputies attempted to stop a reckless pickup truck in Grand Mound. The truck was traveling at speeds over 90 mph and when a traffic stop was attempted, the truck fled and a pursuit was initiated for reckless driving,” Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders said in a Friday morning Facebook post.

The pursuit continued down Interstate 5 into Lewis County before turning around and coming back to Thurston, taking the Maytown exit and heading into Capitol Forest, according to Sanders.

The Washington State Patrol’s airplane Smokey arrived overhead and took over the pursuit from the air.

“The suspect parked and left his four passengers behind, fleeing down a cliffside into a gravel pit. He was not located at that time,” Sanders wrote Friday.

“This morning, the suspect was spotted in Littlerock and fled on foot, escaping a second time. Deputies continued to investigate, and this morning we tracked him to a nearby residence after he was picked (up),” Sanders wrote.

The suspect, who was not identified by officials on Friday, was taken into custody for eluding a police vehicle and reckless endangerment.

“Great work, deputies!” Sanders wrote Friday.
