Tigers Erupt in Second Half to Beat Seagulls

Scoring just 14 points in the first half, and trailing by nine, the Napavine girls basketball team doubled that output and more in the third quarter alone, en route to a 42-point second half performance in a 56-39 win over Raymond on the road Friday night.

After being unable to hold on to a late lead against Mossyrock Thursday night on the road, the Tigers were in the opposite position less than 24 hours after that loss, down 23-14 at the half.

But after Hayden Kaut and Jessie McCoy splashed a couple of early long balls in the third quarter, it began to rain for Napavine, piling on 20 in the third and 22 in the fourth. Morgan Hamilton scored 13 of her 15 total points in the final frame to seal it for the Tigers.

“We finally woke up in the second half,” Tigers coach Shane Schutz said. “Raymond is a very scrappy team and well-coached.”

Hamilton led the way, but Kaut and McCoy finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively, and Keira O’Neill added 10 to round out double-digit scorers.

Raymond was led by Karsyn Freeman’s game-high 19 points.

The Tigers take on Montesano next on the road Tuesday for their third straight road contest to start the season.
