16-Year-Old Eli McNelly Wins Lewis County Amateur

Taking the Lewis County Amateur gross championship by four strokes at Riverside Golf Course in Chehalis, Capital High School student Eli McNelly took the short drive down from Olympia to take home the title with a two-day score of 140 (-2). 

McNelly carded a strong 69 score on Saturday, before scoring a 71 on Sunday a total of 140. 



For his efforts, McNelly walked away with a $750 winning purse. Warren Ayers of Chehalis finished as the runner-up with a two-day total of 144, winning a $625 purse. Patrick Nugent (145), Will Alexander (146), and Joe Blaser, Jr. (147) rounded out the top-five. Von Wasson of Centralia, fresh off a fourth-place finish at the WIAA 2A boys golf state championships, finished tied for sixth. 

Chad Porter won the net (handicap included) tournament, shooting a two-day total of 134, one stroke ahead of Jeffrey Moenck and Ray Jacques. Moenck is a former Lewis County Amateur net champ. Porter also earned a $750 purse.
