1A Boys Soccer: Beavers Win Big on Senior Night

It was about the best way Tenino could have sent its seniors off on Senior Night: with a 9-0 victory on Wednesday against Raymond-South Bend.

All eight seniors, which include Zack Russell, Chris Ramez, Owen Jacobson, Terrance Taylor, William Tennihill, Cameron Farley, Anthony Levi and Angel Espinoza, started the game, led by Russell’s hat trick and one assist.

“We had a bunch of seniors contribute tonight, which was really cool,” Tenino coach Kevin Schultz said. “They performed well. I’m happy for them and proud of them.”

It’s been quite the ride for this senior class that lost their freshmen year due to a lack of turnout, then losing their junior season due to the pandemic. But this group has now led the Beavers to a 5-4 record and the No. 3 seed at the District IV tournament next Tuesday.

“Credit to this group,” Schultz said. “They did a good job recruiting players and they also put the work in.”

Ramez started the scoring barrage off with a goal in the seventh minute off an assist by Jacobsen. Hayden Henderson then scored six minutes later on an assist by Russell, followed by Russell’s goal in the 22nd minute, assisted by Max Craig.

Salvador Ontiveros scored in the 28th minute to give the Beavers a 4-0 advantage at the half.

Ontiveros then dished an assist to Russell in the 41st minute, then Russell scored again nine minutes later to complete his hat trick.

Levi found the back of the net, unassisted, in the 50th minute, then Taylor scored off an assist by Jacobsen and keeper Alex Reichfelder came out of goal to score in the 73rd minute off an assist by Farley.

Reichelderfer finished the night with six saves.

Tenino (5-4) travels to Montesano on Friday for its regular-season finale, then the Beavers head to La Center on Tuesday for the opening round of districts.
