1A Tennis: Beavers Capture Back-to-Back District Titles

Fueled by first- and second-place finishes in singles and a fourth-place finish in doubles, Tenino was able to run it back and claim the 1A District 4 Girls Tennis Championship on Wednesday in Chehalis.

The Beavers also won the title in 2019, the last time the district tournament was held, since the pandemic wiped out the 2020 season.

“We brought the trophy with us to the tournament and it came back home with us,” Tenino coach Sam Whitney said.

Megan Letts continued her tear through the district, going 3-0 on the day and beating teammate Grace Vestal, 6-1, 6-2, in the singles championship to finish her season undefeated.

“She had a long day but it was a good one,” Whitney said. “IT was weird talking to both girls in the same match.”

Vestal put up a gem of a season as well with her lone loss on the season coming to Letts in the championship match.

Rylee Jones and Ashley Schow teamed up to finish 1-2 on the day for a fourth-place finish in doubles and aid the Beavers’ title win.

The Beavers finish 7-2 overall and cap off what was an impressive season under first-year coach Whitney.

“It was a great year,” Whitney said. “Sad that it’s over. I’m going to miss watching the girls, but what a wonderful way to end it.”
