TUMWATER — W.F. West boys wrestling rolled into regionals Saturday morning in Tumwater and walked out with the team title later that night.

Brady Davis (120), Isaac Reavis (190) and Daniel Matagi (220) each won individual titles to power the Bearcats to victory with 238.5 points. Tumwater was second with 196.5. Darren Gray (138), Desmon Parriott (160) and Bryson Boyd (285) each placed second for the Bearcats. W.F. West qualified 11 total wrestlers for the state tourney.

“Feels good to win any tournament, especially regionals,” W.F. West coach Jamie Rakevich said. “Really happy with how we performed today. Hopefully we can sneak one of our alternates in. We’ll see what happens next week.”

Other individual champions include Centralia’s Juan Gaspar, who won the 113-pound title; Centralia’s Alex Hicks-Avron won the 138-pound championship; and Rochester’s Riley Cohron won the 145-pound title.

“[Riley] winning was a big deal,” Rochester coach Jason Dick said. “The point gap [15-1] was the surprising part. He worked hard in the offseason to get to where he’s at now.”

Dick praised Dailin Schlecht (132), Jayden Lancaster (152) and Elijzah Spitzer (185) for all qualifying for state. Lancaster’s loss in the 152-pound title bout was a back-and-forth affair, Dick said.

“Jayden got caught in a weird position and hot his head turned around,” Dick said. “One mistake is all it takes.”

Centralia placed fourth as a team with 93 points. Rochester finished seventh with 70.5.

The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the state tournament. Fifth-place finishers will move on to state as alternates.

“Overall we wrestled well,” Dick said. “Getting into the state tournament was the whole goal. They’ll work their tails off the next three days then head to the [Tacoma] Dome.”
