2A Girls Soccer: Warriors’ Season Ends With 3-0 Loss

Rochester was unable to find the back of the net in a 3-0 shutout defeat to Aberdeen in the opening round of the District IV playoffs Saturday in Grays Harbor.

The Warriors started out strong with some tough defense in the opening minutes, but an Aberdeen penalty kick for a handball in the box at the 11th minute was the backbreaker.

“Our effort was there,” Rochester coach Ken Matthews said. “It’s been there all year. We had some really good early minutes but couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net.”

Matthews’ Woman of the Match was Madison Bates. The Warriors end the season 2-8 overall and 2-7 in league play, with both wins coming against Centralia.

Matthews said he’s already optimistic about next season and sees the Warriors improving from this year’s showing.

“We improved from start to end,” Matthews said. “More to go but we have kids who are coachable and want to improve. Great combo for me as their coach.”
