2A Softball: Bearcats Fight Off Olympia, 3-0

Sophomore’s Saige Brindle and Savannah Hawkins each went 2-for-3 at the plate and WF. West held off Class 4A Olympia, 3-1, in a non-league matchup in Olympia on Tuesday.

The Bearcats used the game as a tuneup for the Evergreen 2A Conference Playoffs, which begin May 4.

“Trying to get out and see some quality pitching and see a different team,” W.F. West coach Caty Lieseke said.

The undefeated Bearcats ran their win streak to 12 games and had used ace Kamy Dacus’ arm to ride out the victory against the higher-classification Bears team.

They relied on the same formula Tuesday. Dacus struck out 12 and allowed four hits without walking a batter, and Olympia’s only run was unearned and came across in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Bearcats plated a run in the fourth, when Brindle’s single knocked in a run, and added two in the sixth — again on an RBI single from Brindle, and then an RBI double from Hawkins.

Dacus and Lena Fragner each added hits for W.F. West.

W.F. West also faced one of its toughest pitching challenges in Olympia’s Sami Potvin. The freshman struck out 14 over seven innings without issuing a walk.

W.F. West (12-0) wraps up the regular season with a home game against Black Hills on Wednesday.
