ROCHESTER — W.F. West turned in six pins on their way to a 58-18 win over the Warriors here on Thursday in a 2A Evergreen Conference wrestling bout.

Coming off the winter break Rochester was forced to take four forfeits on the night but managed to find success at their established weight classes.

“I thought our young guys are definitely young and we are learning but our older guys wrestled really well,” said Rochester coach Jason Dick.

The Warriors’ Jayden Lancaster defeated Evan Moon (6-0) at 160 pounds and Daelin Schlect managed to pin Bo Davis in 3:03 at 132 pounds.

“That was two great wrestlers and a back and forth bout. Daelin actually got a reversal and a fall. It was a great match,” noted Dick.

Rochester’s final victory came in the heavyweight class where Elijah Spitzer pinned Bryson Boyd in 1:46.

“They are club teammates and training partners so they are very familiar with each other,” said Dick. “That’s actually rematch number three and Elijah lost to him twice already, but tonight Big E actually threw him and pinned him”

The Bearcats benefitted from pins of their own from Henry Jordan at 120 pounds, Darren Gray at 138 pounds, Bryce Laufbenberg at 152 pounds, Desmond Tarriott at 170 pounds, Brock Guyette at 182 pounds, and Isaac Reavis at 195 pounds. Riley Cohron added a points decision at 145 pounds to round out the Bearcats scoring.

“We wrestled okay. To be honest I think the two of our guys who lost probably wrestled the best out of any of them,” said W.F. West coach Jamie Rakevich, who touted the efforts of Evan Moon and Connor Trohdahl. “It’s kind of tough to get in a rhythm when you’ve got all those forfeits and everything. I thought we were a little flat but we’re coming off a big break and just getting back into the swing of it.”

Rochester will wrestle at the Grizzly Invitational in Hoquiam on Saturday. W.F. West will wrestle in Portland on Friday and then will host Aberdeen next Wednesday.
