It didn’t matter that Wahkiakum is a tough place to play. Onalaska took all its fury out on the Mules blasting out the gates for 31 points in the first quarter en route to a 62-10 drubbing in non-league action Friday night.
Onalaska coach Mazen Saade said last week’s loss to Napavine helped fuel the Loggers’ fire against Wahkiakum.
“The kids came out with a real sense of urgency,” Saade said. “They were not happy with last week and wanted to make improvements. Their goal was to get better and they did.”
Kole Taylor made the move to fullback and shredded the Mules for 161 yards and three touchdowns on just nine carries. Gunnar Talley added a trio of touchdown runs himself, finishing with five carries for 61 yards.
Marshall Haight added 13 carries for 136 yards and two touchdowns and Kolby Mozingo rushed three times for 73 yards.
Onalaska outgained Wahkiakum 354 total yards to 100 on the night.
“The kids were challenged in practice and they responded well,” Saade said.
He praised Taylor, Talley and Mozingo for their performances on the ground, and Josue Roque for his play on both sides of the line.
Onalaska (1-1) heads to the Stone City for another non-league matchup, this time with Tenino (3-0) on Friday.
Napavine found little resistance in a 40-0 thumping of North Beach in non-league action at home on Friday.
The Tigers held the Hyaks to -1 yards rushing while rolling to 236 yards themselves, led by Cael Stanley’s two rushing scores. Ashton Demarest kept the Hyaks honest through the air, throwing for 222 yards and two TDs. Demarest added three carries for 51 yards on the ground.
Peyton League caught one of those passes for a 75-yard touchdown,while Glade Shannon hauled in another pass for a 9-yard TD strike.
Ashtin Landry ripped off a 66-yard run on his lone carry of the night.
“Maybe he’s gonna end up being a big-play guy for us,” Napavine coach Josh Fay said.
The Tigers went to their reserves early in this one and still held North Beach to just two first downs while tallying seven themselves. The Hyaks were held to 31 total yards of offense while Napavine finished with 379.
“We were able to play a lot of kids,” Fay said. “Our big guys came out and executed for us early. It was a good game for us. Both teams played hard.”
Napavine (3-0) is scheduled to host Rainier (0-1) at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The Mountaineers have been in COVID protocol since their season opener against Toledo.
Pe Ell-Willapa Valley used a strong running game and excellent play from its line to deliver Raymond-South Bend a 42-7 defeat in South Bend Friday night.
Derek Fluke led the Titans’ rushing attack with 14 carries for 127 yards and two scores. Wil Clements tallied two rushing TDs on five carries for 39 yards and returned a fumble recovery 51 yards to the house.
Blake Howard added 17 carries for 101 yards and a touchdown as PWV barreled for 308 total yards on the ground to RSB’s 143. Neither team completed a pass.
The Titans took advantage of the Raven’s eight fumbles, seven of which were recovered by PWV.
Howard led the Titans with 13 total tackles, while Kolton GFluke, Kaden Ritzman and Owen Little each tallied six tackles. Connor Keeton recovered two fumbles.
PWV improves to 2-1 overall and takes the long road trip up the Olympic Peninsula to face Forks on Friday.
