Hot-Shooting Mountaineers Hand Mossyrock First Loss

MOSSYROCK — The Mountaineers had the hot hand here Tuesday night and the Vikings could never quite counter, as Rainier picked up a 66-39 Central 2B League girls basketball win.

It was the first loss of the season for Mossyrock (13-1).

Faith Boesch led Rainier with 26 points on 7 of 9 shooting from long range, and Kaeley Schultz added 21 points and 10 rebounds.

“Boesch shot really well tonight,” Mossyrock coach Autumn Moorcroft said. “She just lit it up from that three-point line.”

The Mountaineers shot 24 of 60 (60%) for the game, and outscored the Vikings 18-6 in the second quarter to lead 29-16 at halftime.

Schultz, co-MVP of the C2BL last year, then scored 11 in the third quarter to help Rainier keep its momentum.

Mossyrock, meanwhile, went 16 of 51 from the floor (31%) and was outrebounded 30-25.

“It just wasn’t our night, shooting-wise,” Moorcroft said. “And then it just trickled down from there.”

Andee Nelson and Faith Mulligan each scored eight points for Mossyrock. Nelson added a team-high seven rebounds.

“I think this is one we can learn from,” Moorcroft said, “and figure out how to bounce back and continue to get better from game to game.”

Mossyrock (3-1 league) hosts Winlock on Thursday. Rainier (12-2, 4-0 league) plays at Adna on Thursday.

Toledo Blows Past Kalama 64-11



TOLEDO — The Indians got off to a hot start and never let Kalama in the game here Tuesday night, topping the Chinooks 64-11 in Central 2B League girls hoops play.

Stacie Spahr paced Toledo with 17 points and nine rebounds.

The Indians led 39-6 by halftime.

“We came out and shared the ball again really well,” Toledo coach Brian Layton said. “Everybody that came in contributed and did pretty good.”

Grace Tauscher added 11 points and buried a trio of three-pointers, with four assists and four steals, and Kal Schaplow scored 13 points with five steals for Toledo.

Emma Cline-Maier scored four points with six rebounds, Marina Smith dished off four assists, and Greenlee Clark tallied five assists.

Toledo (11-1, 3-0 league) hosts Onalaska on Thursday.

Defense Leads Tigers to 58-48 Win Over Toutle Lake

NAPAVINE — The Tigers went on a 20-7 run in the second quarter and held off the Ducks in the second half for a 58-48 win here Tuesday in Central 2B League girls basketball action.

Natalya Marcial led Napavine with 13 points and added five rebounds, while Vannie Fagerness scored 12 with four steals.

“We got a good contribution from all our players,” Napavine coach Shane Schutz said. “It was a step in the right direction.”

Molly Donald led Toutle Lake (4-9)with 18 points, but the Ducks turned the ball over 29 times. Rae Sisson added four steals, along with seven points and six rebounds, for Napavine.

Chloe Stewart led the Tigers with 10 rebounds.

Napavine (5-7, 2-1 league) hosts Kalama on Thursday.
