Adna pounded out 12 hits and led 4-0 after an inning on Thursday, beating Ocosta 12-1 in six innings to advance to the District 4 2B softball tournament championship game.

Emma Eko went 3 for 3 and drove in four runs to lead the Pirates at the plate. Karlee Von Moos was 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI, Haley Rainey was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Ava Simms was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

“We played pretty well,” Adna coach Bruce Pocklington said. “The girls were excited. This is our goal every year. Happy with where we’re at but we’re not done yet.
Rainey pitched the first four innings, striking out five and giving up two hits and an unearned run. Ava Simms closed out the win, striking out five with one hit in two innings.

The Pirates move on to face Forks in the District 4 title game at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Adna.

“It will be two really good pitchers,” Pocklington said. “We’ve got some bats… we’ve taken turns hitting the ball all over the park, but I’d like to see us hit one through nine.”

Forks’ Leverington Shuts Down PWV

Forks’ Chloe Leverington was nearly perfect, and the Spartans shut down Pe Ell-Willapa Valley in a 2-0 win Thursday in the District 4 2B softball tournament semifinals.

It was the first loss of the season for PWV, which wrapped the season with a 13-1 record.

Leverington hit Dani Shannon in the fifth inning, which wound up being the Titans’ only baserunner in the game. Olivia Matlock grounded out for the final out in the first inning; Leverington, a St. Martin’s University signee, struck out every other batter she faced.

Matlock pitched all seven innings for PWV, striking out 12 and allowing four hits with five walks (one intentional).

Both of Forks’ runs were earned. Keira Johnson went 2 for 3 and drove in a run, and Colbie Rancourt added an RBI single.

The Titans had swept Forks, 4-2 (in eight innings) and 11-2, back on April 16 in a Pacific 2B League doubleheader. Leverington pitched in both games, giving up six hits with seven strikeouts in Game 1 and allowing 14 hits with six strikeouts in Game 2.

Forks (11-4) will face Adna in the District 4 championship game at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Adna.
