Rainier will host the 31st annual Bluegrass Festival from Aug. 21 through 25 during the Rainier Round-Up Days weekend at Wilkowski Park.
The festival, hosted by the We Love Rainier WA nonprofit organization, is known for its family friendly atmosphere and combination of organized performances and informal jamming sessions that everyone is welcome to attend.
Featured bands will include Asher and Friends, Becky West, The Cowchips, The Wild Ferns, The Dills Family and Free Range. Friday evening will have an open mic starting at 6 p.m., followed by Jamming and Pickin’. Saturday will feature shows taking place between 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday will have a Gospel Jam starting at 9:30 a.m.
“During the open mic, we are also inviting any and all local talented acoustic players to get on the stage and share their music,” George Johnson, chair of We Love Rainier WA, said in a news release. “Bluegrass country and even ‘60s and ‘70s music is welcome. Participants will receive a traditional candy bar [as a] thank you.”
Food will be available for purchase, and proceeds will benefit the Rainier High School marching band. A corn feed will take place Friday and Saturday nights, and coffee and donuts will be available for free Sunday morning. A raffle will also be held Saturday.
The festival takes place during the annual Rainier Round-Up Days that includes a street dance Friday night at 6 p.m. at Holiday Park featuring the Randy Band, Saturday Vendor Market from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the Rainier Round-Up Days Parade at 11 a.m. Saturday.
