A whopping 72 local athletes will advance to the 2B state championships next week in Yakima after competing in the 2B District 4 championships Friday afternoon at W.F. West High School in Chehalis.
Boys team champion Toledo had six boys move on and advance to the state round in 11 separate events, with six event titles.
Trevin Gale took third to advance in the 200-meter dash (23.70), Jordan Mckenzie took fourth in that same event in 23.76 to move on, and Mckenzie took second in the 400m in 52.01.
Zack Smith took second in the 110m hurdles in 16.18, and sixth in the high jump to squeak into the state round in two individual events.
Then came the wins, with Conner Olmstead finishing with two individual titles in the 400m (51.12) and the high jump (6 feet, 1 inch), and Treyton Marty picking up two distance titles in the 1600 (4:39.77) and the 3200 (10:18.12).
The Riverhawk boys also swept the relay titles, winning the 4x100-meter relay in 45.21 with a team of Gale, Smith, Olmstead and Mckenzie, and taking the 4x400 in 3:30.93 with a team of Gale, Mckenzie, John Rose, and Olmstead.
The Rainier boys finished second in the team standings, with Josh Meldrum taking second in the 100-meter dash (11.23) and fifth in the high jump (5 feet, 6 inches) to move on. Zack Hamilton got fourth in the 3200m in 11:03.55, and Matthew Kenney took fourth in the shot put (43 feet, 3 inches) and second in the discus (140 feet) to advance to state.
Elsewhere on the field, Zander Peck won a district title in the javelin with an 152 foot, 10 inch toss, and James Meldrum took third in the pole vault with a 10 foot, 6 inch clearance.
Chase MacFarland was a near double-winner, taking second in the long jump (19 feet, 10.5 inches) and first in the triple jump with a personal best 43 feet, 9 inches.
The last individual Rainier state qualifier was Jayden Alegarbes, who took fourth in the triple jump (37 feet, 6.75 inches).
The Mountaineers’ 4x100-meter relay also finished second in 46.12 with a team of Chris Grey, Josh Meldrum, Alegarbes, and Kenney.
Napavine was the next local team in the team standings for the boys, finishing fourth.
Max O’Neill was again the headliner, winning two district titles in the 100-meter dash (11.03) and the 200m (22.85), while finishing fifth in the shot put (40 feet, 10 inches) and fourth in the long jump (19 feet, 2.5 inches) to move on to state in four events.
Case Van Kooten and Damein Garcia finished fifth and sixth, respectively, to advance to state in the 110m hurdles, while Mario Lara finished sixth in the 300-meter hurdles to advance in the last spot in 45.10.
Lastly for the Tiger boys, Colin Shields advanced to state in three events: the shot put (43 feet, 4 inches), finishing third, discus (126 feet, 1 inch), where he finished sixth, and the javelin (140 feet, 1 inch) where he finished second.
Morton-White Pass finished fifth as a team, led by a couple of state qualifiers.
Tony Belgiorno advanced in two individual events, taking sixth in the 400m in 54.75 before winning the long jump with a 20 foot, 6.25 inch leap.
Hunter Brackett advanced in both the 1600m, finishing third (4:46.42), and the 3200m, finishing second in 10:36.15. Eric Brown also qualified in the 3200m, finishing fifth in 11:03.58.
Clark Henderson finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles in 44.30 to advance, and Max Lowe advanced in both horizontal jump events, finishing third in the long jump (19 feet, 5 inches) and third in the triple jump (39 feet, 9.5 inches).
Both MWP boys’ relay teams will also make the trip to Yakima, with Lowe, Henderson, Noah Troy, and Belgiorno running the 4x100 in 46.26 for fourth, and finishing sixth in the 4x400 in 3:50.66 with the same group.
Adna finished sixth as a team for the boys, with Jordan Stout the headliner as a triple individual qualifier. Stout took first in the 800m (2:05.10), second in the 1600m (4:44.94), and third in the 3200m (11:02.38).
Sprinter Jaxon Dunnagan got into the state rounds with a fourth place finish in the 100m (11.60) and a sixth place finish in the 200m (24.09), and Cohen Hartley advanced in the 800m with a fifth-place finish in 2:08.45. The last individual qualifier was Kolton Moon, who took third in the 110m hurdles in 16.71 and third in the 300m hurdles in 44.01.
The Pirates boys’ 4x400 also advanced, finishing fourth in 3:44.01 with a team of Kolton Moon, Stout, Kooper Moon, and Hartley.
Onalaska finished seventh as a team, led by Ben Russon and Riley Carter’s double qualifying finishes. Russon took second in the 800m (2:06.50) and fourth in the 1600m (4:47.94), while Carter took fourth in the 110m hurdles (17.09) and second in the 300-meter hurdles (42.88).
Isaac Fitch took fourth in the 400m in 53.96, Justice Miller qualified with a fifth-place finish in the discus (129 feet, 3 inches), and the Ony 4x400-meter relay finished second in 3:41.41 with a team of Fitch, Russon, Carter, and Taden Miller to advance.
The last local boys team was Winlock, which finished 11th as a team. Payton Sickles qualified in both the 100m, finishing third in 11.35, and the 200m, finishing second in 23.39. Chase Trodahl was also a double qualifier, finishing sixth in both the 1600m (5:01.23) and 3200 (11:04.83).
On the girls side, North Beach took the team title, with the top local school being Napavine in fourth.
The Tigers finished just four and a half points back of the team title.
Morgan Hamilton was a quadruple-qualifier, winning a district title in the 400m in 1:02.56, taking second in the 100m in 13.08, and third in the long jump in 15 feet, 3 inches. Hamilton was also on the second-place 4x100-meter relay team.
Also on that team was Maddie Dickinson, who took fourth in the 100m in 13.41 and first in the 200-meter dash in 27.11. Keira O’Neill was also a quadruple-qualifier on that 4x100-meter relay, taking fifth in the 100m in 13.50, third in the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches), and second in the triple jump (32 feet, 1.5 inches).
Jessie McCoy was the last Tiger state qualifier, squeaking in with a sixth-place finish in the shot put (29 feet, 3.5 inches), and participating in the 4x100-meter relay with Hamilton, Dickinson, and O’Neill that finished second in 53.36.
The next local team in the standings was Onalaska, which finished sixth.
Brooklyn Sandridge advanced in three events, taking first in the 300-meter hurdles (49.56), third in the discus (104 feet, 8 inches), and fourth in the long jump (15 feet, 1.5 inches). Melissa Reiman was a double-winner, taking the 800m (2:40.13) and 1600m (5:55.31) district titles.
Halle Henrickson took fourth in the shot put to advance (29 feet. 7.5 inches), and Kelsi Haas took fourth in the high jump (4 feet, 6 inches) and won a pole vault district title with a 9 foot, 6 inch clearance.
Rainier finished just behind Ony in seventh, led by Acacia Murphy’s triple-qualification day. Murphy won the 100-meter dash in 12.98, took second in the 200m in 27.40, and first in the high jump (5 feet, 2 inches).
Haleigh Hanson qualified in two events, winning the shot put (33 feet, 1 inch) and finishing fourth in the discus (98 feet, 7 inches), and Zaylee Bravo also made it in the discus, finishing fifth (98 feet).
Ella Marvin was a pole vault qualifier, finishing fourth (8 feet, 6 inches), and Anika Plowman finished sixth in the long jump (14 feet, 10 inches) to advance to state.
Two of Rainier’s relays made it as well, with both the 4x200-meter relay and the 4x400 finishing sixth.
The 4x200 ran a 1:57.26 with Aubrey Hancock, Emma Mathson, Plowman, and Angelica Askey, and the 4x400 ran 4:47.09 with the same group.
Adna finished eighth as a team, with some strong qualifiers. Megan Price finished fifth in the 200m in 27.97, Reagan Naillon finished third in the 400m (1:05.08), and Sorena Neilson advanced in both the hurdle events, taking second in the 100m hurdles (17.10) and fourth in the 300m hurdles (53.06).
Megan Stout finished sixth in the 100m hurdles to advance, Lillian Boyd took second in the discus with a 118 foot, 11 inch toss, and Lydia Tobin took third in the javelin (100 feet, 5 inches).
All three of Adna’s relays qualified, with the 4x100 made up of Sophie Hagseth, Naillon, Tobin, and Price, the 4x200 made up of the same team, and the 4x400 made up of Stout, Price, Neilson, and Naillon.
Winlock’s Victoria Sancho was a triple-qualifier, taking third in both the 100m (13.24) and 200m (27.51), and helping the qualifying 4x100 team.
Cali Scofield took second in the long jump (15 feet, 3.5 inches), and helped the 4x100-meter relay team take fifth with Sancho, Natalie Cardenas Hernandez, and Charlee Connelly.
MWP’s Madyson Bryant advanced in the 400m with a fourth-place finish, and Ayricka Hughes won the 3200m district title in 14:09.55.
The T-Wolves 4x200 made up of Amy Martinez, Chloe Kelly, Bryant, and Katelyn Gilstrap took fourth, and the 4x400 made up of Haylee Morgan, Trinity Rayment, Bryant, and Kelly also took fourth.
Finally, Toledo’s girls had two qualifiers, with Paige Hill taking fifth in the 1600m and Jasmine Kemmerer qualifying in the 300m hurdles in 53.36.
