Acorns Fall in Pitcher’s Duel to Elks

Posted

Though starter Tre Groninger tossed a gem, the Oakville baseball team fell in a league contest to Lake Quinault Monday afternoon, 1-0.

Groninger went all but one third of an inning for the Acorns after hitting 100 pitches, tossing 5 2/3 innings allowing just one hit, one run (unearned) with 10 strikeouts and five walks. Daniel Rodas pitched the final out in relief, a strikeout.

The Acorns couldn’t get anything going at the plate, despite a 3-hit day for Haezen Cayenne, who went 3 for 4 with a double. Groninger and Rodas each added a hit as well to account for all the Acorn hits.

The lone run came off an error in the first inning for the Elks.

The Acorns will return home to play Evergreen Lutheran this Friday at 4 p.m.
