The Oakville baseball team struck first against Wahkiakum in Cathlamet on Wednesday, but a crooked number from the Mules in the second was too much to overcome in the Acorns’ 9-4 defeat.
Koner Burnett hit a sacrifice fly in the first to give Oakville a 1-0 lead, but the Mules put up seven in the second and added another in the third to build a commanding 8-1 lead.
Oakville did what it could to chip away, scoring one on a groundball in the fourth and two more on an RBI single from Isaiah Bird in the fifth, but they weren’t able to get any closer than four.
Gio Rodas did excellent in relief after entering in the second, as he went five innings allowing just two hits and three unearned runs. He also struck out six.
The Acorns (2-2, 0-1 1B CVL) will take the next 11 days off before hosting Wahkiakum on Monday, April 14.
