The Toledo boys basketball team was able to slow down Adna and hold the Pirates to a cold night shooting, but the Pirates found just enough offense to earn a 58-48 win to kick off Central 2B League play Tuesday.
“Welcome to Central 2B League basketball,” Adna coach Luke Salme said. “This game was a grind. Some of our issues tonight were self-inflicted, but lots of them were because Toledo is a very disciplined team. They played hard and smart for four quarters. I thought we played really hard, (but) we’ve got to get better in some areas.”
Adna finished a rough 4 for 27 from beyond the arc, hitting just two triples in each half.
Seith Meister led the Pirates with 17 points, after getting held scoreless in a first quarter the hosts only won by a point. Eighteen points in the second and 17 in the third helped slowly push the lead to double-digits.
Lane Johnson added 14 points, Eli Smith had 13, and Braeden Salme scored 11, including two of those made 3-pointers.
Kaven Winters had a team-high 14 points to lead Toledo. Rogan Stanley scored 13 and led the Riverhawks with eight rebounds, and Conner Olmstead added 11 points. Cooper Fallon logged eight points, seven rebounds, and a block.
“Our guys matched their intensity and kept hanging around, then we’d have a dumb turnover or make a mistake,” Toledo coach Grady Fallon said. “Adna did the little things that kept their lead. Our goal was to hang with them and have a shot, and we did that. We walked away with our heads held high.”
Adna (3-0, 1-0 C2BL) will go to Rainier on Thursday, while Toledo (2-3, 0-1 C2BL) will face Morton-White Pass in Randle.
