Aggressive Vikings steal win over rival Loggers

Ignited by 17 stolen bases and a little bit of seventh inning magic, the Mossyrock High School baseball team triumphed over Onalaska 6-5 in a key C2BL contest on Monday afternoon at home.

Down one run and staring at their final strike, the Vikings (5-6, 5-6 C2BL) got a game-tying single off the bat of Kevin Mitchell. Two straight passed balls put Mitchell at third and the Loggers intentionally walked Easton Kolb.

A dropped third strike by Onalaska’s catcher plated Mitchell and sent Mossyrock into euphoria.

“It is a big win,” Vikings head coach Darren Kolb said. “Hopefully we build on that.”

Onalaska (5-8, 5-6) went ahead 3-2 after three innings and added an insurance run in the sixth. Mossyrock tied it at 4-4 and the Loggers jumped in front on an error.  Broden Vickers finished with two hits and two RBIs while Desean Stewart roped a triple and drove in a run for the Loggers.

Easton Kolb fired 11 strikeouts on the mound and swiped six bases. Wylde Greisen added four stolen bases and Shuan Fry notched two. Eight of the 10 batters in Mossyrock’s lineup drew a walk.

The two teams will meet again on Wednesday in Onalaska.
