A person crashed an all-terrain vehicle at Capitol Forest Sunday afternoon and was later airlifted to an area hospital, according to the McLane/Black Lake Fire Department.

About 1:20 p.m. Sunday, fire crews and other emergency responders were dispatched to Sherman Valley Road at Noschka Road, Capitol Forest, after a report of the ATV wreck.

The rider was taking part in the Tacoma Trail Cruisers Poker Run, fire officials said in a social media post, when that rider crashed and wound up in a 200-foot ravine.

Details about the rider were not included in the post.

McLane/Black Lake units and Medic 10 responded from the Rock Candy Mountain side of Capitol Forest, including in their own ATVs, to find the rider.

"Once the patient was located, the Thurston County Special Operations Rescue Team was requested to assist with the low angle rope rescue out of the ravine," the social media post reads.

West Thurston Fire also responded to assist in the rescue.

The patient was rescued and transported by an off-road vehicle and a West Thurston aid unit to a waiting helicopter at Trail Cruisers base camp, according to the post.
