Bail is set at $100,000 for a man accused of attempting to kick in the door of a Chehalis residence and threatening to kill the family inside on Saturday.

The suspect, identified as Matthew Eric Eastman, 39, of Centralia, allegedly entered an unlocked home the 600 block of Northwest Prindle Street “looking for his sister and someone named Damien” at about 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16. He left when the family of four inside yelled at him to leave, according to court documents. The family informed responding Chehalis police officers that they did not know the man who entered their home.

About an hour later, at approximately 8 p.m. on Dec. 16, Eastman allegedly returned to the residence and “attempted to kick in the front door to their house,” according to court documents. Eastman was unable to enter the home, but allegedly “began to threaten (the) family by saying he was going to blow their heads off and blow their brains off,” according to court documents. Eastman allegedly said “something to the effect of I’m going to get my gun” before leaving the property on foot. He allegedly stole a black lighter off the porch when he left.

Officers cleared the scene and searched for the suspect, who “they believed was Matthew Eastman given the description and the fact that Eastman had been contacted a day prior by officers and was wearing the same clothes as described by the alleged victims,” according to court documents.

Officers located Eastman near a gas station on Main Street and arrested him. He reportedly had a black lighter in his pocket at the time of the arrest.

Lewis County Jail records indicate Eastman was booked at 9 p.m. on Dec. 16. He was charged in Lewis County Superior Court on Monday, Dec. 18, with one count each of attempted residential burglary, first-degree criminal trespassing and second-degree malicious mischief as well as three counts of felony harassment.

Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 21.
