The W.F. West girls bowling team came out red-hot in its first match back from winter break. The Bearcats continued their unbeaten streak by defeating Rochester 2238-1424 in total pins.

"I was hoping we could sustain our momentum we had built up before the holidays,” Bearcats coach Don Bunker said. “We were coming off of an intense Tower Classic tournament win and were in top playoff form. We had good quality practices during the break and it gave us a chance to work on our spare shooting which really helped."

In game one the Bearcats were led by Piper Chalmers' 214 and Savannah Hawkins' 229 game. The Warriors were led by Taylor Staley's 151 game and Serenity Hurst rolled a 156.

"We shot over 900 total pins as a team in the first game which is our goal,” Bunker said.

The Bearcats defeated the Warriors 925 total pins to the Warriors 648 total pins.

In game two the Bearcats had big games from their three seniors. Hawkins bowled a 200 game; Clara Bunker bowled a 204 and Piper Chalmers shot a 257. The Bearcats also got some help from one of their future stars junior Brea Tracy who bowled a 181 for the ‘Cats.

"Our seniors stepped up but we have been really pleased with the improvement and work ethic that Brea has,” Bunker said. “Brea has moved her way up from the C-Team to competing for one of our 7 rostered playoff spots.”

The Bearcats defeated Rochester in game two 984 total pins to 592.

In the two-team Baker games the Bearcats went with an all-senior lineup averaging 165 to take the victory in both games. First-year senior bowler Joelle Hawkins and senior Yesi Martinez earned some varsity experience in these games. Martinez marked in all four of her frames.

"It is great to involve as many of our team in varsity matches as possible,” Bunker said. “Joelle and Yesi are a big part of our program and are leaders on the team.”

W.F. West takes on Shelton at home on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. With a win against the Highclimbers the Bearcats will clinch their fourth straight league title.
