W.F. West boys track and field placed fourth and the girls finished sixth in the 19-team Lil Norway Invitational at North Kitsap High School on Saturday.

The Bearcat boys were propelled by two runner-up finishes by senior Seth Hoff, who was second in both the high jump with a leap of 5-10 and the javelin with a toss of 158-03.

“He was a great competitor today, battling throw to throw in the jav,” W.F. West coach Autumn Ledgerwood said. “He had some really nice attempts at 6-foot in the high jump.”

Dakota Collins and Elijah Annonen went two-three in the pole vault, with leaps of 11-06 and 10-6, respectively.

The Bearcat boys finished with 66.5 points, while Lynden and Central Kitsap tied for first with 104 points and host North Kitsap was third with 89.5.

On the girls side, senior Kyla McCallum won the javelin with a toss of 104-01.

“Kyla has such a great awareness of where she needs to adjust in order to progress, and she’s just a few technical tweaks away from a big PR,” Ledgerwood said.

The Bearcats’ 4x100-meter relay team of Amanda Bennett, Savanna Bolivar, Amelia Etue and Hodaya Starr placed second in a time of 53.2.

“Those girls are really starting to look faster together and each of them have been contributing so well,” Ledgerwood said.

Third-place finisher for W.F. West included Amanda Bennett in the javelin (100-02), Brenna Witchey in the triple jump (32-09) and the 4x200-meter relay of Bennett, Starr, Witchey and Etue in a season-best time of 1:50.61.
