W.F. West boys soccer took care of business and shut out Fort Vancouver, 2-0, to claim a victory in the opening round of the 2A District IV tournament on Tuesday in Vancouver.

Adrian Jaimes continued his strong play this season, scoring a first-half goal on a penalty kick to give the Bearcats a 1-0 advantage at the half. Damian Hernandez made it 2-0 in the second half with an assist from Bearcats' goalkeeper Hayden Sciera.

“Our midfield was exceptional tonight, along with Xavier Flores on defense,” W.F. West coach Allen Anderson said.

W.F. West moves on to the district semifinals, where it will face 2A Evergreen League champ and rival Tumwater at 6 p.m., Thursday, at Tumwater High School.

The winner advances to the district title game and earns an automatic bid to the state tournament. The loser will face the winner of Aberdeen-Rochester in a loser-out, winner-to-state contest on Saturday.
