W.F. West boys soccer secured the 2A Evergreen Conference’s third seed with a 3-0 shutout win over visiting Black Hills on senior night Tuesday.

“We knew going in we needed to take care of business and control our own destiny,” W.F. West coach Allen Anderson said.

The Bearcats (7-4 EvCo) cannot be caught by any teams lower than them in the league standings. Rochester is 5-6, Centralia is 4-7, Black Hills 4-8 and Shelton 0-11. Aberdeen is currently in second place at 9-2 and Tumwater is in first at 10-1.

The Bearcats took their fate into their own hands against the Wolves, out-shooting them 18-4 on the night.

Gideon Priest put the Bearcats up 1-0 with a goal in just the ninth minute off an assist from Adrian Jaimes. Jaimes then scored a goal of his own in the 71st minute from an assist by Isaac Madrigal. Cody Pennington capped the scoring off with a goal in the 72nd minute, assisted by Damian Hernandez.

“We did a good job controlling the flow of the game,” Anderson said. “Every level stepped up tonight. Every mistake was cleaned up by a teammate.”

Seven seniors were honored on senior night, which included Saul Lima Perez, Adan Vargas, Isaac Madrigal, James Villanueva, Xavier Flores, Gideon Priest and Josh Eberly,

It was a pretty fun night,” Anderson said. “Happy with the performance of the boys. All the seniors played minutes tonight.”

W.F. West has one final home game on Thursday against Aberdeen before taking on either Fort Vancouver or Ridgefield in the opening round of the 2A District IV tournament on Tuesday.

“That will be great preparation heading into the playoffs,” Anderson said of their matchup with the Bobcats Thursday.
