Bearcats Fall to Highclimbers in Four

W.F. West came out sluggish and couldn’t sustain momentum in a four-set loss (24-17, 25-16, 20-25, 25-17) to Shelton on the road Thursday in a 2A Evergreen Conference matchup.

“We just started flat the first set and the second set wasn’t any better,” W.F. West coach Robert Lucas said. “We went on a run and won the third set then lost that spark again. Shelton is not a bad team, we just didn’t get the job done shutting them down.”

Maggie Busse and Ava Olsen led the Bearcats’ attack with six kills each. Olsen added two aces and two blocks to her stat line.

Savannah Hawkins recorded a team-high four aces, while Kambriah Simper had two aces, Morgan Rogers tallied five kills, Anna White had five blocks and Julia Dalan and Amelia Etue each contributed one block.

“Our energy just wasn’t there,” Lucas said. “Not sure what happened. We’re still in control of our own destiny, this just made it a little more difficult.”

W.F. West is now 4-4 in league play and needs to collect back-to-back wins against Rochester on Monday and Tuesday. The Bearcats travel to the Warriors Monday, then host them on Tuesday.
