Playing against a 3A state-placer from a year ago, the W.F. West volleyball team fell in straight sets to Kelso (25-17, 25-10, 25-17) Monday night.
The Bearcats (1-2) kept up with the Hilanders when they kept the ball in play, but shot themselves in the foot one too many times, serving just 84% as a team.
Savannah Hawkins was the lone player who served a perfect 100% with two aces. The senior also added 11 assists, with fellow setter Saige Brindle adding eight more dishes for kills. Morgan Rogerson led the Bearcats with six kills on 13 attempts.
“The score isn’t indicative of how the match was played,” Bearcats coach Robert Lucas said. “There were quite a few long rallies which went back and forth. We played hard and didn’t give up.”
The Bearcats will look to rebound on the road against Mossyrock on Thursday.
