After suffering its first loss of the year, the W.F. West High School girls soccer team got a second half energy burst and dominated Aberdeen to the tune of a 2-0 win at home on Thursday night.

Eighteen seconds into the second half, the Bearcats (6-1-1, 2-1 EvCo) stole the kickoff and Lauren Kelley found Reese Mishler on a cross to double the lead in the 41st minute. They outshot Aberdeen 20-1.

“We talked at halftime we needed to raise the intensity,” Bearcats head coach Kevin Schultz said. “Kind of a low-energy game both ways, but we survived. This was a trap game; credit to our girls.”

Kelley was on the receiving end of a cross from Taylor Tobin that found the back of the net in the 18th minute. Schultz stated they made an adjustment with the wingers at practice that paid off on Thursday.

W.F. West takes on arch rival Centralia on the road on Tuesday. The Chronicle Cup match will be the second league game in Chehalis in three weeks.

“You throw records out the window,” Schultz said. “Their focus is to be very physical. We’re gonna have to make sure we raise our level to that.”
