The W.F. West volleyball team posted win No. 1 of the Tiffany Alvarado era Tuesday, beating Rochester 25-23, 25-16, 25-22 at home in a 2A EvCo clash.

“We have a lot to keep working on, especially our serving and communication, but it was so good to see these girls work together and reduce the errors on our side of the net,” Alvarado said. “The effort they have been putting in paid off tonight.”

Grace Simpson led the way for the Bearcats (1-9, 1-5 2A EvCo) with 10 kills and a block at the net, and five aces at the service line.

“It was great to see Grace Simpson gain some confidence at the net tonight,” Alvarado said.

Addison Adams added five kills for W.F. West, while setter Ashley Mueller dished out 16 assists and also had two aces.

Delany Winter posted seven kills, three aces and two blocks for the Warriors (0-10, 0-6 2A EvCo), while Natalie Bennett had four aces. Outside of those two, though, Rochester struggled to keep things steady at the service line, gifting W.F. West 15 points on serving errors to kill any attempt at a long run.

“The thing that definitely killed us tonight was our missed serves,” Rochester coach Bridget Morris said. “Those were definitely game-breakers for sure.”

W.F. West is set to host Shelton on Thursday, while Rochester will go back home to play Black Hills.
