Picking up their third win in just four days, the W.F. West boys basketball team rocketed out to an early lead and held on to a late Black Hills rally in a 64-57 win Thursday night at home.

The Bearcats win means that they are in sole possession of second place in the 2A Evergreen Conference, just one game back of league-leading Tumwater.

W.F. West was boosted by 16 first half points from Seth Hoff, and four threes in the first half from the sharpshooter. Hoff ended up with a team-high 23 points. Soren Dalan (15 points) and Dirk Plakinger (12 points) rounded out the Bearcats double-digit scorers.

The Wolves were led by Luke Ellison’s game-high 29 points, with Johnnie Stallings the only other player in double figures. Ellison’s 10 points in the third quarter and 12 in the fourth kept Black Hills in the game, but they couldn’t get enough scoring from outside the forward and dropped their third league game of the season in Chehalis.

The Bearcats will look to keep the momentum rolling against Aberdeen Friday while the Wolves look to rebound against Shelton on the road.
